A New Year Update.

So how was your New Year’s celebration?  Did you even have a celebration?

With Bennett in tow, Brian and I escaped next door, as always.  Per usual, we engaged ourselves in a modest amount of mocking that pertained to the shenanigans that go on in Times Square.  I don’t think I’ll ever have the desire to go to New York to watch the ball drop.  You?

Wanting to bring a decent dish to the McKinley’s house, I gave Rachael Ray’s cheesesteak egg rolls a try.  (Mike and Karen have a tradition of eating cheesesteaks when they watch the Eagles play, so I figured I was cooking in the right direction.)  Naturally, I tweaked the recipe a little here and a little here.  Thumbs up all around.  I’m super excited to know how to make a cheese sauce now.  This won’t be the last time I make this dish.

As far as New Year’s resolutions go, I’m going back to my one-day-a-week sweets day rule.  Without boundaries, my sweet tooth has gotten the best of me once again.  Unfortunately, the little moments of bliss that I have while eating a peace of candy are far outweighed by a longer periods of feeling crummy.

Brian never makes resolutions.  Do you?

And how did we usher in the New Year today?  We test drove a mini van.  While we’re not sure about making any immediate purchases, our little Aveo (<click for an Aveo story) is definitely feeling very crowded with the car seat and stroller.  Initially, we had driven to Chantilly with the expectation of checking out the Mazda 5 again; but as it turns out, I like the Chrysler Town & Country.  Yes, I’m still in my twenties.  No, I don’t have any explanation for my mature preferences.

And Bennett is still coughing here, sneezing there and has a runny nose at times.  He doesn’t seem quite as sluggish as yesterday and the day before.  It doesn’t seem like a vaccine would be the cause of this lingering yuckiness; but being that he had ZERO signs/symptoms of a cold prior to his shot, I can’t help but wonder if it distracted his immune system long enough to allow him to succumb to this.  That could just be me making stuff up.  Maybe he’d have come down with this anyway, but I’m still skeptical.

To whom it may concern:

I was mistaken on Sunday about today being that day that the salon begins booking my returning schedule.  Today’s a holiday!  Someone should be answering the phones later this week.  Sorry about that.

Glad you were able to visit and try a new recipe. Maybe you could make that for our next family gathering. Hope the baby feels better soon.

Poor Bennett! We hope he feels better and returns to his normal happy little self. And phew! I was so concerned! I tend to work things up in my mind and I had convinced myself you had selected the clients you still wanted to see and told the receptionist not to answer any other phone calls. I also had three dreams, no – nightmares, that I missed my alarm set for 8:57AM and called at 9:26 AM but you were booked for years. Yes, the same dream. Over. And over.

I’ll be on the phone when the door opens tomorrow!
No one has touched my hair since you did in October. When are you coming back? Maybe I can wait 2 more months?

I don’t set resolutions per se, but I do outline goals for the year. I can’t help it! I’m a lover of lists. Still while my iphone notepad has lots of lists for everyday reminders, the annual goals are always on paper. It’s fun and highly satisfying to cross them off when complete.

I like the thought of you behind the wheel of a mini van. The last time I rode in one, I couldn’t help but notice how luxurious they have become! 🙂

praying the little guy gets over the bug quickly

i grew up right outside of New York and have never had any desire at all to actually go to Times Square to watch the ball drop–but then, my idea of a perfect New Year’s Eve (or any evening, for that matter) is to curl up at home with the cats, a few good books and my craft supplies, and maybe a few treats (Italian cold cuts, spinach dip, etc)

Happy New Year to all of you!
