Cushaw.

What are your plans for Monday?  Mine?  Well, I WAS going to visit Momma and the sibs with Ol’ Benny Boo in tow, hitting up some fresh produce and hauling back the six chicken broilers that I ordered.

Alas, our salon scheduled a Monday morning meeting, putting a snag in my plans.  As I mentioned the other day, my babe takes two naps a day (usually), the first one around 9ish and the second one, 3ish.  Being that it takes an hour and a half to get to Momma’s house, my travels are always coordinated with the nap times so that I can enjoy a bit of peace and quiet on the road.

So since Monday got shot, I called Momma up yesterday morn and sorta sprung myself on her.  She was happy to accommodate a spur of the moment visit.  In addition to brightening her day, Bennett and I also spread cheer unto Aunt Manny (A.K.A. Manny-saurus Rex) and honorary Aunt Rachael.

But all that ooey-gooey baby goodness is old news, right?

So what’s the new news?

This monster:

cushaw squash

Momma and I drove to Mowery’s Orchard and marveled at all of the pumpkins and gourds on display.  There was a vast array of colors and sizes.  Curious about a particular selection of jumbo gourds that were marked at $3.50, I asked the staff if these gourds were just decorative or if any were actually edible.  They kindly turned my attention to the cushaw squash, a sort of cousin to pumpkin, that was hidden amongst the gourds.

Well, guys, I think you know what my weekend is going to look like, huh?  I’ve got a date with Mr. Cushaw Squash.  Let’s hope he likes me.  First, I must research him to death.  Then I’ll pounce.

Glad you could drop by for a visit. 😀
Wish we didn’t live so far apart, so visits could be more frequent.

Great pic of Bennett in the pumpkin patch. Love the detail and colors! Just had great butternut squash soup wit green beans, potatoes, corn, and cherry tomatoes. Finished with butter, one 8oz package cream cheese, sage, allspice, nutmeg, ginger and cardamom. Bet Mr
Cushaw could sub. Really exquisite combo from friend’s garden.
