Oh, the birthday party.
The babe and his cake.
This was my yesterday (thus resulting in no post):
Such a picturesque moment.
Bennett really loved it. He was quite careful with each piece, each bite.
You know, Mommy Square Piece spent a bit of time planning this moment. She brainstormed a cake design, duct taped a backdrop, crafted a little tie-bib and even put a bit of hairspray in the babe’s hair to keep it from falling in his face.
Alas, when that boy smiles, I see nothing but sunshine. That middle part wiggled its way into his hair without my knowing.
And what else happened without my knowing?
My grandma, A.K.A. Ma, was popping pieces of her cake into Bennett‘s mouth while I was still slicing and divvying everything in the kitchen!
So, yeah, technically I missed Bennett’s first taste of cake.
I missed that, but I managed to holler, “MA! STOP!” as everyone chuckled at my controlling ways, not daring to scold my grandma themselves.
I suppose she’s earned the right to do it though. And there was Bennett at her knees, mouth open like a baby bird, tongue sticking out, begging for more.
Adorbs.
PS: Congrats to Nancy Jean for winning the Three Little Monkeys Contest!
No way would anyone deign to put down Ma for feeding cake to Bennett. Certainly they didn’t know your plans at the onset and the boy had a clearly different agenda! I suspect you are raising a mini SP but we’ll have to wait and see! What fun that will be. Sure all us grandmas hope to live a long life so we can observe our little ones as adults! My dream.
Happy Birthday, Bennett. I’ve become too forgetful to send cards in time and take advantage of the cyper space to do it. Know you are loved by your extended family.
That could be the cutest one-year birthday picture I have ever seen. I’m sure he tried to eat that tie.
Congrats, NJ on winning the contest! 🙂
The party was so much fun!!! I really enjoyed the freedom you gave him to wander around and go at his own pace and taste the birthday cards and amuse us all with his goofy grin.
Wish we lived closer so that we could visit more.
what an adorable pic!
so excited that i won–and i hadn’t been going to enter since I live in Seattle, but I can’t wait to see how you find the right person/place to donate it to!
Baby bird, indeed. So cute. His first birthday was just right. *nodding head* mm hmm yep.
