Welp. Today is my and Brian’s eight year anniversary. We’re both guilty of forgetting it, too. I mean flat-out-no-card-no-nothing forgetting it! It had already been decided that we’d postpone our celebration until next month when we have a little family getaway planned. But still…
This morning certainly wasn’t the most celebratory. I had started a pot of coffee and snuggled back into bed with Brian and Bennett. When Brian heard that the coffee was ready, he left to make two cups (mine complete with the dollop). Upon arriving back at the bed with our coffee, he fussed as he accidentally spilled a bit of it on his pillow. As Brian left to grab something with which to clean the dribbles, Esther managed to finish the mess by shoving a pillow into Brian’s mug of coffee, spilling the contents all over our bay window (which is our headboard) and into our blinds. Considering the fact that these blinds had to be custom made and weren’t inexpensive, Brian was less than impressed as I hollered for him to quickly come back and help manage the coffee flood.
Somehow, in the midst of the coffee-spilling chaos, Brian jammed his foot on something hard, completely tipping him over the edge. Bennett and I sat in the bed while Brian cussed and growled a blue streak from the kitchen.
When he came back to bed, I reminded him that we can expect all of our material possessions to be considered ruined now that we have a child. Then I turned to him and remembered, “Oh! Happy Anniversary.”
Both of us had a good, humble chuckle as we couldn’t help but acknowledge the irony of the moment. Happy indeed!
Only a few hours later, I was reminded to blog this story as Esther managed to knock my coffee mug over in the exact same pillow-rooting moment as she achieved this morning, sending me to quickly scurry for a towel before it soaked the blinds on my side. Upon tossing the towel into the laundry room (about two feet away), I came back to the bedroom to find my son screaming as he had tossed himself from the Boppy onto my laptop keyboard, all in the middle of the bed.
Awesome.
We will definitely be scheduling a redo of today.
living in interesting times, are you?
Happy anniversary, especially as it’s your FIRST anniversary as parents!
my advice…DON’T redo today…redo a better day!
Word.
So glad you can laugh over it! It probably won’t be long before Bennett contributes to the mess too! (I suggest always putting him on surface that is easily washed…babies always know the worst moments to have a diaper blowout…)
Welcome to the “never a dull moment” club!!!!
Oh, and I can’t wait to post the picture on FB that I’ve been saving for months to celebrate this day, LOL.
