“An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.”
At least, that’s what a wise, old proverb tells me (Proverbs 24:26). My whole heart believes this to be true. But ya know what? There are some other actions that are “like a kiss on the lips” to me. And just this morning, my husband unearthed one quite without his knowing it.
Brian gets up very early on Sunday mornings. This is a sacrifice that he makes for our church congregation. Many of us just loOoOoOove having a service that doesn’t meet until 10:30 AM. But Brian? Well, he’s busy in the wee hours getting everything in order so that our church can run as smoothly as possible. (We don’t fit in the old church building anymore, so we meet in a high school auditorium… So now there’s room for you, too!)
Well, once anyone begins to stir in our household, my orange tabby cat, Samson, finds it necessary to alert me that it’s time for me to escort him to his food dish. This is not a pleasant alarm. This cat doesn’t meow; he demands. A meow sounds like, “Pleeeeease.” His version sounds like, “RightNowRightNowRightNow.” (Except if I spelled it, it would go like this: “Rrrangh! Rrrangh!”)
Considering the fact that I fell asleep around 2:00AM and at this point the sun still hadn’t risen, with my eyes closed, my brain began to awake with thoughts that sounded something like, “I’m gonna thump him…” But I must’ve still looked asleep because while I was laying there considering Samson’s fate, I heard Brian come to my rescue.
In a scolding, hushed whisper, he scooped up the cat and said, “Let her sleep!”
I heard him remove Samson from the bed. I heard him shut the bedroom door. I heard him scooping cat food into the cat dish. Then I heard silence.
That. That gesture was like a kiss on the lips for me.
What’s like a kiss on the lips for you?
Awww! That is a servants heart!!!
Have I mentioned how much I love that boy?
🙂
I bet he will do that with Bennett as well, once Bennett gets past the only-nursing stage, and wakes up early insistent on his breakfast! He is definitely a servant–I know we definitely appreciate all Brian does to make Sundays run smoothly!
He is such a great guy. He treasures you so.
It’s a kiss and a hug and a show of true love and caring.
Brian’s whispered directions to Samson were undoubtedly a wonderful sound to hear in your half-awake haze.
Bet you slept well afterward 🙂
Awww Cubby Cubs. For me, having coffee ready before I wake…. Yup. Love it!
