Mondays With Momma: On Being a Grandmother: Part Two

Not too long ago Joey asked about our Thanksgiving plans.

Suzy and Brian had plans, Mandy and Rachael had plans, Ma & Pa had plans …. and while the kids and I were invited to join in these plans, among others, I just did not have it in me to do anything big, since this was our first Thanksgiving without Charley.  So, when Joey asked about our Thanksgiving plans and I filled him in on what was going on, he was really disappointed to hear that we would all be scattered in various places this year.

That should have been my first clue.

The Tuesday before Thanksgiving, DSS called and asked if I would be able to take in a 17 year old girl for at least a week.  I warned them that we would not being doing much for Thanksgiving and that, if anything, I would probably be taking the kids out to dinner.  They reassured me that they understood my situation and it didn’t matter how I spent the holiday.  I was hoping to find our favorite Asian buffet open, but they were not, so I scouted around and discovered that Cracker Barrel would be open and serving a special Thanksgiving meal.  Since our “guest” had never been to Cracker Barrel we made plans to head out after watching the parade on TV.

In the wee hours of the morning on Thanksgiving Day … oh say, 3:43ish … I got a text from Joey saying, “You probably wanna check our facebook pages asap…”!

I don’t know why he thought I would be up at such an hour, much less surfing the internet, but I definitely caught the clues “our” and “facebook” and “asap” … sure enough, within seconds, I found that adorable picture that Suzy posted the other day with Joey and Caitlin beaming over a positive pregnancy test.  These two have been sitting on this news for almost two months, just waiting for the right time to spring it on everyone.  Thanks to the wonderful world of mass communication they were still able to surprise everyone at once.

The news could not have come at a better time.

  1. We were all worried about how this Thanksgiving would go for the family, especially you. Joey and Caitlin to the rescue, huh?! It IS hard getting all of us together though. I’m super excited to be an aunt and for Bennett to have another cousin.
