In an attempt to develop some consistency and predictability in Bennett’s life, I’ve been sing-songing, “Rrrrrrrrrrrred, ooooOooOOoorange, yellllllllllllow, greeeEEEeeeen, BLUUUUUUUUUEE!”
We do this while diaper changing the most, but I’ve been known to holler it into the back of the car when Bennett’s wailing in the car seat. (It works. I have witnesses.)
Well, yesterday we added a new routine to our R-O-Y-G-B song. Bennett grabs my thumbs while I simultaneously wrap the rest of my fingers around his little fists (like a steering wheel). When I sing, “Red,” I roll him to the left; “orange,” to the right; “yellow,” to the left; “green,” to the right; “blue” returns us to the center where I grab his feet and peddle them like a delighted maniac.
He loves it. It’s absolutely adorable to see his eyes have that knowing look of anticipation when I grab his hands. And last night I noticed that he was more inclined to attempt flipping on his own since we had been practicing turning together.
So this morning I showed Brian the routine and encouraged him to try it himself with Bennett.
Brian, attempting to make his voice higher pitched, “Rrrrrrred, yelllllllowwwww, greeeeeeeen…”
Me, “Red, ORANGE, yellow. Orange.”
Brian, “Rrrrrrrrred, oooOOooOrange, green…”
Me, “YELLOW, green. YELLOW, green.”
Brian, “Rrrrrrrred, yellllllooooowww, greEeEeEeEn…”
Me, “Brian! You’re killin’ me!”
I’m sure Bennett was nonetheless delighted.
You are cracking me up! And I needed that today. Please video tape this one for me.
Hahaha, yes, video this asap!!!
Next time, teach it to Brian first. Much less frustration overall 🙂
Would love to be a fly on the wall.
