Skeleton Bones

“I want your blood… I want your body,” sang my husband, Brian, one morning to himself while I was getting ready for work.

Blood?  Body?  What kind of sick, twisted Halloween song is this?

Brian, “I want your blood… I want your body…”

It does have a familiar tune though…  Do I know this song?

Brian, “I want your blood… I want your body…”

I couldn’t take it anymore.

Me, “Brian?  What are you singing?”

Brian, “John Mark McMillan.”

Me, “John Mark  Mc…  OoOoOooooOOoo…  I know now.  It’s not “I want your blood; I want your body.”  It’s “we want your blood to flow inside our body.”

My BFF, Katie, introduced me to this song, Skeleton Bones, a couple of years ago.

The lyrics are inspired from chapter 37 of the book of Ezekiel (see below).  The chorus is John Mark’s interpretation of what the bones must have been thinking when the Lord breathed life into them again.  As odd as the lyrics might seem, they’ve really grown on me.

Enjoy!

The real lyrics:

Skeleton Bones

Peel back our ribs again

and stand inside of our chest.

We just wanna’ love you

We just wanna’ love you

Yeah

Peel back the veil of time

And let us see You with our naked eyes

We just wanna’ love you

We just wanna’ love you

Yeah

Skeleton bones stand at the sound of eternity

On the lips of the found

And gravestones roll

To the rhythm of the sound of you

Skeleton bones stand at the sound of eternity

On the lips of the found

So separate those doors

And let the Son of Resurrection in.

Oh let us adore the

Son of Glory dressed in love

Open up your gates before him

Crown Him, stand Him up

We want your blood to flow inside our body and

We want your wind inside our lungs

We just wanna’ love you

We just wanna’ love you

Yeah

x2

Skeleton bones stand at the sound of eternity

On the lips of the found

And gravestones roll

To the rhythm of the sound of you

Skeleton bones stand at the sound of eternity

On the lips of the found

So separate those doors

And let the Son of Resurrection in.

Oh let us adore the

Son of Glory dressed in love

Open up your gates before him

Crown Him, stand Him up

Everything that breathes, yeah (x2)

Everything that breathes

1 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the LORD and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones. 2And he led me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry. 3And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord GOD, you know.” 4Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. 5Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. 6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the LORD.”

Ezekiel 37: 1-6
